Connected lights for heavy duty machine operators

Heavy machinery operators have to operate in various conditions, conditions that can affect their vision. The complimentary Android and iOS app allows operators to customize the TYRI INTELLilight based on their preferences.

Project setup

As the only UX/UI designer, I lead the design efforts for the first Android and iOS app that allows operators to fully customize TYRI’s INTELLilight, individually or in groups. In 3, 2-week sprints, we built a comprehensive proof of concept.

Involvement

Designing two native applications through an agile approach requires discipline, thorough understanding of design intent and above all a well thought through prioritisation process.

Wireframing in the first sprint and detailing the UI in the second and third sprint, while reviewing implementation.

Lights can be used individually, in groups or behave like a scene

This setup allows operators to utilize their lights to their full extend. It’s as easy to control lights individually as it is to control them in groups. Connect lights to the app, assign them to a group and control them. Want to personalize them more and control all lights with a simple on/off? Create a scene specifically for foggy days or morning sunshine. Easy peasy!

A simple design system that grew out of this project

Due to a limited time, components were built in a reusable way. Nothing fancy, just the neccessities like nav bars, buttons, list items etc. Compiling it in an easy to grasp overview helped the development team work effectively. It followed the atomic design system strategy.

An increased product awareness at the client side, securing further investment

I worked on a proof of concept with a newly developed product, which helped gain internal understanding of the potential gains for the target group.

A year after we delivered this, the client picked up the project in futher developed it in-house. The app is currently live in the App Store and Play Store.
